Everyone’s story is unique.

This is mine.

So yep, you got me, writing is basically my life

Ever since I was little scribbling stories in my notebook, reading books by flashlight under my bed covers or an angsty teen penning poetry in my bedroom, words have been my passion.

I studied English with Creative Writing at uni (obviously!) before landing a sweet graduate job in editorial. After gaining some experience I was lured by the bright lights of Warwick and made the move into a communications and marketing role for a large co-operative.

Working for a co-op was amazing. I loved that I got to write about things I felt passionate about and that were, cheesy as it sounds, making a difference to people. Right then and there I was hooked.

Changing things up

With eight years’ experience heading up the communications team, writing marketing copy for brands as diverse as travel and funeral and editing the award-winning The Co-operative Magazine, I decided it was time to step out of employment and into the crazy world of freelancing.

In 2016 I set up as a freelance copywriter giving me the chance to stop wearing heels, embrace my independent streak and be my own boss. Oh, and of course work with a whole load of awesome businesses including The Open University, One YMCA and Alzheimer’s Society.

For me, there is nothing better than writing great copy for people I like who are doing things I believe in while…

listening to ska punk,

drinking tea

and eating dark chocolate.

I do all of that in the surprisingly leafy town of Milton Keynes where I live with my three boys (two little, one big). And I love to read and do yoga whenever I get five minutes’ peace (which is pretty much never).

Now tell me about you

So that’s me, now it’s your turn. If you’re looking to stand out, get your message heard, and put yourself out there without apology I’d love to help you do that! A chat is a great place to start, so get in touch and we’ll make it happen.

Working with me

If you’re interested in working with me, here’s a little bit about how I do things. I work with clients in a few ways:

Copywriting Work

1. On a project basis

For work such as writing web copy or producing a one-off publication I would quote for the entire project, based on the amount of time I think it will take. Once we’ve discussed the work and you’re happy to go ahead I take a 50% deposit and get to work. For larger projects (Annual Reports for example) I may ask for milestone payments but that would be agreed from the off.

2. On a retainer basis

If you need regular copywriting work, for example if you want to produce regular communications or you have a schedule of marketing emails to be written, we can set up a retainer where you pay a set fee each month. This can work out as a really cost-effective alternative to employing a full-time copywriter as I’d basically become a handy little extension of your team (minus the HR costs of course).

However we choose to work together, you’ll find I’m approachable, super reliable (strangely for a creative type, I love deadlines) and I’ll make sure you’re totally comfortable with the whole process from start to finish.

Once the scope of a project or retainer is agreed I’ll provide a quote based on my standard day rate of £300.
